Chinese shares started sharply higher on Monday, with the key Shanghai Composite Index opening at 5,683.31 points, up 131.01 points or 2.36 percent.
The index, which tracks both A and B shares listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at a record 5,552.30 points on Sept. 28, the last trading day before the weeklong National Day holiday.
