In July 2001, Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Shenzhen Municipal Government made a decision to establish Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Belt (hereinafter referred to SHIB). In September, Ministry of Science and Technology PRC approved to accelerate the construction of SHIB.
Significance
The establishment of SHIB is an inevitable choice for Shenzhen to achieve the aim of being a regional center and hi-tech modem city, and increasing new advantage and basically accomplishing socialist modernization in advance. It will solve the problem of insufficient developmental space of high and new technology industry in Shenzhen, and increase total strength and radiant ability of Shenzhen hi-tech industry. It has great significance of bringing along the development of new satellite towns, and accelerating the process of urbanization, as well as promoting harmonious development between inside and outside Shenzhen Special Economical Zone.
Area Range
SHIB comprises 11 parks with length of 100 square kilometer and total area of 158.5 square kilometer, with 100 square kilometer for the construction of facilities, which includes about 50.9 square kilometer for new and hi-tech industries. There are about 26 square kilometer having been constructed, including about 10.4km for new and hi-tech industries.
Industrial Function
SHIB is designed to focus on the development of 6 dominant industries, which are the base of SHIB's regional and international advantages. The 6 industries are: IT industry, biotechnology & medication, integration of optics electronics and mechanics, novel materials, new energy and modem agriculture. There are 5 functions of R&D, incubation for technology based enterprises, industrialization, high-level education, and export process.
