In September, a video of an eight-year-old girl called Xiaoya buying Viagra at a drug store went viral. The truth is that Xiaoya is a pulmonary hypertension (HP) patient, and for her Viagra is a life saving drug.

Launch ceremony for the Zhong Nanshan Foundation and GPHL Pulmonary Hypertension Charity Project

“Many people are not familiar with pulmonary hypertension. It is not a rare disease, but a serious condition,” said Prof. Liu Chunli, director of Respiratory Department of the First Clinical Affiliated College of Guangzhou Medical University (FCACGMU). An HP patient might look healthy, but their daily activities are limited due to chest pressure, fainting spells, cyanosis and swelling caused by a lack of oxygen.

After the video about Xiaoya was broadcasted, GPHL immediately contacted Xiaoya’s mother, donated 10,000 RMB, and promised to offer Jinge® (Sildenafil Citrate Tablets) to Xiaoya for free for three years.

GPHL also contacted FCACGMU’s Zhong Nanshan Medical Team to further examine and assess Xiaoya's condition. Recently, Xiaoya was hospitalized with GPHL’s help, and the group will cover all her hospitalization expenses. Zhong Nanshan, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, also tried to help the girl. On December 5th, he offered consultation and assessed Xiaoya’s condition together with Prof. Wang Jian and Prof. Liu Chunli.

On December 7th, the ‘Zhong Nanshan Foundation and GPHL Pulmonary Hypertension Charity Project’ was launched in Guangzhou. Prof. Zhong Nanshan, Prof. Dong Erdan, an academic from the CAE as well as Director of the PKU Cardiovascular Institute, and Prof. Stephen M. Black from University of Arizona’s College of Medicine attended the launch ceremony.

This project was initiated by Guangzhou Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical Sales Co., Ltd., Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical General Factory and Zhong Nanshan Foundation, and is committed to providing HP education, facilitating academic exchange about HP, and offering HP treatment for free (Jinge®).

GPHL donated Jinge® (worth not less than one million RMB) to the Zhong Nanshan Foundation, and is recruiting poverty-stricken HP patients suited to HP treatment through the foundation (email: liangfengting@nanshaninstitute.com; tel: 18819162984). GPHL will provide such patients with Jinge® for one year, helping improve their health.

In 2017, GPHL, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health and Beijing iSEEK PH Hope Center jointly launched the ‘GPHL Jinge® Blue Lips Recovery Plan’ which has helped nearly 500 HP patients to date.

On May 11th, 2019, GPHL Jinge® Blue Lips Recovery Plan was launched.
